Two common formats of tamper-evident security labels are residue labels and destructible labels. What is the difference between a residue label and a destructible label?
Residue labels and destructible labels are both tamper-evident security labels, but they reveal tampering in different ways. A residue label, often called a void label, is designed to separate when peeled or removed. This leaves behind visible evidence on the surface, such as a “void,” “opened” or checkerboard pattern, making it clear the label has been disturbed. A destructible label is designed to break apart into small fragments when removal is attempted. Because the label cannot be peeled off cleanly or reapplied, it leaves behind a visible indication of opening, access or tampering.
